In collaboration with Shell, coac has implemented the SEP – a solution to create digital identities of equipment that can be used to exchange information with internal and external users in a safe and structured way.

Industrial companies are currently facing a number of challenges: Increasing production prices, a shortage of skilled workers, volatility and intransparency in the supply chain and a lack of critical information to initiate the sustainability and digital transformation. It is leading to competitive disadvantage for brownfield sites in the global market. The use of modern technology, such as AI and advanced analytics, can help to increase efficiency and enable transformation initiatives.

Martin Prinz, Managing Director of coac adds: “The digital transformation is ongoing, and many solutions are ready to use. Many organisation are still hesitant to implement digital solutions or stronger automation and put the data to work, because relevant information is not easily accessible. With Shell this is different, we are delighted to have a collaborator that is using advanced analytics and AI to improve efficiency and streamline processes.”

SEP uses AI and Analytics to collect relevant data for equipment enabling the digital transformation of sites and operations. The SEP system is supports Shell in three different areas. The first, by contextualising different data sources from Shell to create a single point of truth for equipment information. The second, by digitising technical drawings such as piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to extract equipment types and generate data, thereby reducing manual effort by around 70%. And the third, through material tracking, using sensors on equipment so that the position of equipment at any time during construction and turn around is available.

Hariharasudhan Ramani, General Manager Digital Innovation of Shell comments: “Our digital innovation efforts focus on advanced AI solutions as well as the data required for our algorithms. Implementing the Smart equipment passport is another important milestone in our effort to maintain a strong data foundations to progress in our digital journey.”
